Jackie Collins was the English romance novelist, screenwriter, and actress whose books were set in Hollywood and featured characters leading lives of glamour who were known by fans to be based on real-life celebrities that Collins would observe in Los Angeles, where she made her home for most of Read moreher life. Several of her works were adapted into movies or TV miniseries, some of which starred her sister Joan Collins.

Collins' first novel, The World is Full of Married Men, was published in 1968 and became a bestseller while stirring controversy. It was ultimately banned in Australia and South Africa, even after Collins agreed to revise it to exclude objectionable language. Collins went on to write the screenplay for the 1979 film adaptation of the novel.

Her most popular series featured the ambitious heroine Lucky Santangelo, introduce in the 1981 novel Chances.
