“Ramraj” is a famous novel written by Sharan Kumar Limbale. It describes the atrocities committed against people who are referred to as Dalits by those who take pride in belonging to higher castes. The novel is written in the context of the helplessness and inferiority complex that the Dalit community has to face in India.

‘ਅੱਕਰਮਾਸ਼ੀ’ ਸ਼ਰਣ ਕੁਮਾਰ ਲਿੰਬਾਲੇ ਦੀ ਸਵੈ-ਜੀਵਨੀ ਹੈ। ਅੱਕਰਮਾਸ਼ੀ ਦਾ ਅਰਥ ਹੈ- ਨਾਜਾਇਜ਼ ਔਲਾਦ। ਮਹਾਰਾਸ਼ਟਰ ਦੇ ਪਾਟਿਲ ਰਖੇਲਾਂ ਰੱਖਦੇ ਸਨ, ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਦੇ ਬੱਚੇ ਵੀ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਸਨ ਪਰ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਆਪਣੇ ਘਰਾਂ ਵਿੱਚ ਨਹੀਂ ਸੀ ਰੱਖਦੇ। ਰਹਿੰਦੀਆਂ ਉਹ ਆਪਣੇ ਘਰਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਸਨ, ਉਹ ਪਿੰਡ ਦੀਆਂ ਕੁੜੀਆਂ ਵੀ ਹੁੰਦੀਆਂ ਸੀ ਜਾਂ ਬਾਹਰੋਂ ਲਿਆ ਕੇ ਆਪਣੇ ਪਿੰਡ ਦਲਿਤ ਬਸਤੀ ਵਿਚ ਵਸਾਈਆਂ ਹੋਈਆਂ ਵੀ। ਉਹ ਲੜਕੀਆਂ ਜਾਂ ਔਰਤਾਂ ਅਕਸਰ ਦਲਿਤ ਸਮਾਜ ਦੀਆਂ ਹੁੰਦੀਆਂ ਸਨ। ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਦਾ ਰੰਗ ਰੂਪ ਚੋਣ ਦਾ ਆਧਾਰ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਸੀ। ਕਿਸੇ ਵੇਲ਼ੇ ਇਹ ਰੁਝਾਨ ਪੰਜਾਬ ਵਿੱਚ ਵੀ ਸੀ ਪਰ ਕਿਸੇ ਪੰਜਾਬੀ ਦੇ ਨਾਮਵਰ ਲੇਖਕ ਨੇ ਇਸ ਪਾਸੇ ਨਿਗ੍ਹਾ ਮਾਰਕ...
