Mitch Albom, born on May 23, 1958, in Passaic, New Jersey, is a renowned author of several best-selling books, including Tuesdays with Morrie, The Five People You Meet in Heaven, and For One More Day.

He earned an MA in Journalism from Columbia UniversityRead more in 1979, and gained national recognition as an award-winning lead sports columnist for The Detroit Free press. Mitch began writing a weekly non-sport column, in which he began exploring inspirational themes of time, death, love and loss that would form the basis he's best known for.

While watching TV, Albom happened upon an interview with his former professor Morrie Schwartz, who was dying of ALS. Albom reached out and began visiting Schwartz, and the pair discussed philosophical themes like the purpose of life and how to be a good person. To fund Schwartz's medical bills, Albom turned their conversations into chapters of a book, Tuesdays with Morrie. Released in August 1997, it became a bestseller over 20 million copies and remains one of the top-selling memoirs of all time.

Albom's subsequent works include The Five People You Meet in Heaven, where a man named Eddie dies, and in the afterlife, learns of five people whose actions profoundly impacted his life, and on whom Eddie had a significant impact. For One More Day, which also deals with themes of mortality, depicts a suicidal baseball player who spends a day with his deceased mother and rediscovers his purpose for living. Have a Little Faith, in which he gets to know Albert L. Lewis, a rabbi from Albom's hometown of Passaic. In 2019, Albom published, Finding Chika, which recounts his and his wife's care for a girl, Chika Jeune, who they brought to Albom's Have Faith Mission & Orphanage in Port Au Prince after the 2010 Haiti earthquake.

Albom's other notable work includes Bo: Life, Laughs, and the Lessons of a College Football Legend, and Fab Five: Basketball, Trash Talk, The American Dream. Beyond writing, he is a playwright and musician, involved in various stage comedies, including a stage adaptation of Tuesdays with Morrie. Albom also performed with The Rock Bottom Remainders, a band of bestselling authors dedicated to raising funds for charities.
