A wolverine, having been the victim of a prank by a group of young flying squirrels, swears to get revenge. Soon, he kidnaps one of the young squirrels – who happens to be a cousin of Linden’s, Yakari’s beaver friend. The wolverine’s plan is to torture his prisoner by starving him, then gobble him whole to acquire his ability to glide through the air! Yakari and Linden will have to work hard to rescue their friend … and convince the incensed predator to abandon his nefarious plans!

During one of his outings, Yakari catches a glimpse of a white bear and, taking it for a ghost at first, runs away. Later, determined to find the strange animal that no one else believes he’s really seen, he leaves the camp alone and, having found the bear, makes a new friend. A recluse friend, though, who doesn’t want Yakari telling anyone about him … Unfortunately, the young Sioux’s behaviour draws the attention of a hunter who dreams of a white trophy ….

On a lovely spring day, Yakari happens upon Quiet Rock, the tribe’s elder, busy admiring a Pronghorn – an American antelope. The young Sioux then spends a few days with the Pronghorn’s family, learning about their everyday life. With the help of several of his animal friends, he even helps them through several incidents – from coyote attacks to prairie fires – and learns a valuable lesson about humility while he’s at it.

It’s summer on the prairie, a hot, oppressive summer that has everyone’s temper flaring. While Yakari’s family, eager to find the buffalo they are tracking, has moved some distance from the other Sioux, nature suddenly unleashes its rage, and a tornado tears through the main camp. Tipis torn, supplies scattered, the tribe must now rebuild … but there are also several people missing, blown away by the twister and perhaps injured or trapped. Yakari sets out to loo...

Yakari learns from the tribe’s elder that the Sioux haven’t always been the magnificent riders they are now – indeed, that there was a time they didn’t even know what a horse was. Shaken, he speaks a little too demandingly to Little Thunder, wounding his four-legged friend who immediately runs away. Devastated, the young boy will have to track down his companion and find a way to earn his forgiveness if he ever wants to share a gallop with him again...

Yakari meets his friend Great Eagle in his dreams. His wish of seeing him “for real” will come true the day that he manages to be like him. So Yakari tries to fly, but in vain. Then he saves his friend Rainbow from an attack by a mother Puma. And finally he saves the life of the mustang Little Thunder, stuck on a mountain ledge. It is with Little Thunder that Yakari discovers his formidable talent: he can talk to the animals. As a reward for his numerous exploits, Great Eagle gives Yakari ...

After a long rainy spell, large stretches of the prairie are flooded, much to the displeasure of most of its inhabitants. Yakari visits his friends to make sure everyone is all right, then falls asleep that night and dreams of clouds mysteriously coming out of the water. The young Sioux’s dreams are not always completely random, though, and the next day he rides out in search of signs. What he will find will soon unite all his friends in a desperate rescue mission …

In the middle of winter, while Yakari and his friends play in the snow, the tribe’s hunters kill a terrified wapiti. A welcome catch, for the stocks of food are running low. But the next day, all the meat that had been left to dry has disappeared! The hunters set out after the thief, and soon begin to suspect a bear. Yakari then decides to visit his furry friends to identify the culprit …

In the middle of the night, a daring thief from another tribe makes off with the horses of Yakari’s people. Only Little Thunder managed to escape him by fleeing into the forest. While the warriors hurry after their precious mounts, Yakari goes in search of his friend … who is himself trailing the thief! Once the two groups converge near a huge camp, Yakari will have to display extraordinary cleverness to help his folk…

One day when heavy rains force them to play inside, Yakari and Rainbow are startled by a strange sound. To their amazement, it’s followed by their whole tipi suddenly taking off and flying straight north, with them inside! After several hours of a not entirely pleasant journey, they’re greeted on landing by Rainbow’s spirit guide Nanabozho, the Great Rabbit, who wants them to meet the inhabitants of the great north. Among those is a mysterious white bird …

Yakari gets to know the ways of the lord of the plains: the buffalo. After a hunt that brought the tribe much needed supplies, Yakari is visited in his dreams by the buffalo, killed the day of his birth, whose pelt still serves as his blanket. Intrigued, the young Sioux and Little Thunder go see the great herd. From encounter to encounter, and by helping a young mother and her newborn calf against a particularly nasty wolf, Yakari learns to know those majestic animals so important to his o...

Nanabozo, the Great Rabbit, is... well, a giant rabbit. He’s also a powerful sorcerer, and Rainbow’s spirit guide, as Great Eagle is for Yakari. When he appears to the young Sioux to tell him his charge has disappeared, little Yakari is swept up in a quest that will make him turn into a giant, run on smoke, fly, and travel to the ice banks where the polar bears play.
